About the festival

Call for works SONOHR 2026

For the 16th SONOHR Radio & Podcast Festival, which will take place from 27 February to 1 March 2026, we are seeking audio-based artistic works and performances that broaden the scope of traditional audio productions, such as radio plays and podcasts, and that explore innovative and creative approaches to the audio medium.

We are also seeking short audio pieces from audio producers born in 1990 or later.

We are looking for:

  • Narrative, interactive and/or interdisciplinary live audio works that enable an extended listening experience and an exchange with the authors. These can be documentary, fictional or experimental live performances and live radio plays, audio or sound walks, live podcasts, interactive formats and other innovative or interdisciplinary audio formats.
  • Narrative, produced short pieces (maximum length 15 minutes) by producers born in 1990 and later who approach the audio format artistically and explore formal, content-related, narrative and/or acoustic boundaries and take unusual paths.

Formalities:

  • In addition to completed works, we also consider expressive, intelligible project sketches and concepts for our programme. Well documented projects that have been presented elsewhere are equally welcome.
  • We offer remuneration for performance for the selected projects and audio works, as well as accommodation and reimbursement of travel costs to Bern. We are unable to fund entire productions. Selected short pieces are remunerated with a playback fee.
  • Audio works in German, French or English can be submitted without transcripts. However, existing transcripts – even if only acting as a guide – are welcome Audio works in other languages may only be submitted with an English or German translation/transcription.
  • The language of correspondence is German, French or English.

Dear people with open ears

Radical comes from radish. Or not quite. Radical has to do with roots, with the effort to get to the bottom of things, to penetrate tirelessly to a depth. Radical is what needs no habit. Under the motto ‘Radical Audio’, Sonohr 2025 presents pieces, positions and productions that think about the medium of audio in terms of possibilities, proximity and sensuality.
We are looking forward to bringing together audio creators, audio enthusiasts and the curious for three days to experience current work in Switzerland and Europe. For example, in the five blocks of works nominated for the national competition. In three listening sessions with short pieces. In the guest contributions and listening sessions by outstanding guests. Or in the completely new format ‘A Play in a Day’ – on Friday, plays will be conceived and realised during the day to open the festival in the evening. Take a risk together, immerse yourself in the immediacy of the world. Use your ears to feel together at the 15th edition of SONOHR. We hope you’ll be there!

The festival

The SONOHR radio & podcast festival is a three-day celebration of creative documentary and fictional audio stories that are rich in sound, and an event which also allows for an active exchange between authors and the audience. We offer the unique experience of enjoying thrilling radio dramas, intriguing documentaries, experimental sound art or interactive audiowalks together with friends and like-minded people in high-quality sound and in the comfortable setting of a cinema.

Our selection includes a national competition as well as outstanding and innovative audio creations from around the world. The side program offers opportunities to various forms of listening and discusses new developments in the field.
